Children's Swimming Lessons

Learning to swim is an essential life skill, and our children’s lessons give children the opportunity to develop their abilities in a fun and supportive environment. From building water confidence to developing strong swimming techniques, our experienced teachers help children progress at their own pace while enjoying every lesson. Whether they’re new to swimming or ready to take their skills further, we’ll help them become capable, independent swimmers.

Adult Swimming Lessons

Our adult swimming lessons cater to a wide range of needs, whether you’re learning from scratch, returning to swimming after a break, or working towards a specific goal. Lessons can be adapted to suit your experience and focus, from becoming more comfortable in the water to developing your stroke, technique and efficiency. With personalised guidance, you can work on the areas that matter most to you.

Private Swimming Lessons

Our private swimming lessons are available for both children and adults, providing one-to-one tuition tailored to individual needs, ability, and goals. With dedicated time and attention from your teacher, lessons can focus on the areas that matter most. Whether that’s learning the basics, developing technique, overcoming challenges or working towards a specific swimming goal. Private lessons offer a flexible, focused way to make the most of every session and progress at your own pace.

S.E.N.D Swimming Lessons

Our SEND swimming lessons provide a welcoming and supportive environment where children and adults with additional needs can enjoy learning in the water. Lessons are adapted to the individual, taking into account different abilities, communication styles and learning needs. Our aim is to create a positive experience where swimmers can develop water skills, enjoy being active and make progress in a way that works for them.

Swim School Frequently Asked Questions

Joining and Cancelling Lessons

Joining our swimming lessons is easy. You can sign up by visiting Chigwell Sport & Wellness Centre during opening hours or submitting an enquiry form.

Our swimming lessons are paid for in 12 blocks and run across 50 weeks of the year. There is a two week break over the Christmas and New Year period.

Our swimming lessons are available from as young as 4 months old, giving children the opportunity to become comfortable and confident in the water from an early age. Babies and young children are accompanied in the pool by an adult, creating a fun and supportive introduction to swimming.

From 3 years old, children can attend lessons independently with our qualified swimming teachers and begin developing their skills at their own pace.

There’s no upper age limit for learning to swim. We welcome swimmers of all ages, from babies taking their first steps in the water to adults looking to learn or improve their swimming.

When you have three weeks remaining in your current 12 week block, you will receive an email from GoLearn inviting you to renew your swimming lessons.

A reminder email will then be sent each week until your current block expires, giving you regular opportunities to renew and secure your place for the next block.

If you choose not to renew by the end of your current block, your place will be released and offered to new customers.

Switching and Freezing Lessons

We understand that circumstances can change, and you may need to alter the day or time of your swimming lesson. If you need to make a change, please speak to our reception team in person or contact the centre by phone.

Changes are subject to availability and, if a suitable alternative is available, your lesson day and time will be permanently changed.

Please note that lesson times cannot be changed on a week by week basis.

Lessons can only be frozen on medical grounds and must be supported by appropriate medical evidence.

All freeze requests must be submitted through Swim Manager and will be subject to approval.

Qualifications

Swim England are the Governing Body for Swimming. At Chigwell Sport and Wellness Centre we follow their Learn to Swim Framework.

All our swim teachers hold either a Swim England Qualification (SEQ) Level 2 in Teaching Swimming or a STA Certificate in Teaching Swimming and all hold an up to date DBS check.

Viewing Lessons

Swimming lessons can be viewed from the Café Gallery area, if your child is under the age of 8 years old you must remain in the café area during lessons in case your child needs the toilet.

When joining you will be given a linked email sent to the registered email on your account. Once you have logged in you will be able to view your child’s progress on a weekly basis. We would ask that you give the system 24 hours to update after each lesson before viewing any progress updates.

This can be done via your online portal, in centre at the reception desk or over the phone

Please request the email address of the Swim Manager and get in touch with her directly to help you and offer an alternative
